Home made treats and goodies! :)
I love trying out new recipes for home made dog treats. (My dogs love it, too!) Here are a few of my dogs' favorites. They're all pretty simple and quick to put together. My dogs seem to like them better than store-bought treats, plus I love that I can make them with natural, unprocessed ingredients and I know exactly what is in every one of them.
These are very simple, and excellent for summer! Pour broth into ice cube trays and put a rawhide or milkbone in the center and freeze. You can use any broth- chicken, beef, vegetable, etc. I usually use chicken broth. I also usually dilute the broth, using 1/2 broth and 1/2 water.
Home made "Frosty Paws"
My dogs go crazy for Frosty Paws, but they can get a bit pricey and they go through a package so quickly! I make a mixture of 2 TB peanut butter, 1 cup plain yogurt, 2 TB honey, and 1 mashed banana. Pour that into ice cube trays or an egg carton lined with wax paper and freeze.
These make for great little training treats. You can make them whatever size you want. I like to make them small, like chocolate chips, to use as a reward during training sessions. Mix 1 cup plain yogurt with 2 tb peanut butter, put it in a piping bag, and make little drops on wax paper and freeze. If you don't have piping bags, you can also use a ziplock bag with the corner cut. You can also add in other ingredients like a banana, pumpkin, etc. for different flavors.
Pumpkin "Frosty Paws"
These are similar to the other Frosty Paws recipe, but they also have pumpkin. Dogs love the taste of pumpkin and it is great for digestion. Pumpkin settles upset stomachs and also eliminates gas. Blend together 1 can of pumpkin, 1/2 cup peanut butter, and 1 cup of plain yogurt. Pour into ice cube trays, and freeze.
I hope your pups enjoy these treats as much as mine do!
